Just when I thought that Origin had the expression "swift and to the
point" coined, along come Italy's Balatonizer cramming a staggering
thirty songs into twenty five minutes of CD space, with enough brute
force to make Will Rahmer cream his pants. Indeed, _Occlused in
Ottusity_ has a fair bit in common with Rahmer's Mortician -- from the
programmed drums to the incomprehensibly low vocals, through to the
bass-heavy guitar tones. The difference is that Balatonizer pull it off
without the need to resort to an endless stream of horror samples, and
more importantly, without ever sounding monotonous. This is intense
stuff for sure, but it's also strangely infectious; and while it's
highly unlikely that you'd be able to whistle along to it during your
morning commute, it's a record that sticks in your memory for a
lengthier period than you'd expect.
